Wade Whitfield, who led lettuce and mushroom commodity trade associations, died August 4 at 82 years old.
Whitfield was president of the California Iceburg Lettuce Commission from 1978 to 1992, when the organization disbanded. He then was president and chief executive officer of the Mushroom Council, Roseville, Calif., from 1993 to 1997. In 1990, The Packer named Whitfield Produce Man of the Year for helping to launch the 5 a Day program, and his work with the Center for Produce Quality and the Alliance for Food and Fiber.
Whitfield is survived by his wife Joan, three sons and a daughter.
