(July 21) Two of the top players in New York’s apple industry have merged to form a new sales organization.

H.H. Dobbins Inc., a leading western New York packinghouse based in Lyndonville, announced plans July 15 to merge its sales division with United Apple Sales Inc., a domestic and international marketer based in New Paltz. The deal is effective Aug. 1.

The merger melds two strong shipping operations. Chuck Andola, owner of United Apple Sales and chief operating officer of the new company, estimates it will ship about 1.5 million boxes per year to the fresh market, which is about 12% of New York’s 13 million boxes per year.

The new company will be called United Apple Sales LLC and will be based in Lyndonville. Ward Dobbins, owner of H.H. Dobbins, will be chief executive officer.

Jim Kankoski of H.H. Dobbins will be the new company’s director of domestic marketing and sales, while Dean Decker will continue in sales and logistics from the New Paltz office.

“This exciting merger will give us more capacity to better serve the marketplace,” Dobbins said.

The deal will enable the new company to supply more fruit to larger markets and expand beyond both companies’ area of operation, Dobbins said.
