The event, co-hosted with Silicon Valley Global Partners and the Steinbeck Innovation Cluster, is expected to bring together several hundred representatives of the region’s high-tech and agricultural industries.

Among the topics will be biotech, precision farming, sustainability and the role of big data in supporting food production.

“The goal of the AgTech Summit is to find innovative solutions to some of the world’s most critical farming challenges, and there’s no better place for this event than in the Salinas Valley,” Mike Federle, Forbes Media chief operating officer, said in the release.

Besides tech companies, growers and shippers, participants are expected to include award winners from the Thrive Accelerator program launched this month by Silicon Valley Global Partners. It’s a mentorship and investment program for startups in precision agriculture. Mentors for the program include Taylor and Vic Smith, president and chief executive officer of JV Smith Companies.

Ten such startups will receive a Thrive AgTech “disrupt” award and gain access to summit attendees. Application for the award can be done online.
