The National Apple Month contest for retailers and military commissaries is winding down.

To be eligible for the annual U.S. Apple Association competition, retail displays must be in place for at least two weeks by the end of November. Entries must use the “Host an Apple Pairing Party” theme, according to a news release.

Entries must be postmarked or e-mailed by Jan. 15; winners will be announced Jan. 31. Prizes total $14,000.

Produce managers can visit the association website for point-of-sale materials, free downloadable posters, banners and a pairing menu featuring sponsors’ products. The displays cross-merchandize apples and apple products with products from Marzetti, Smucker’s and Jif.

Judges’ criteria will include use of National Apple Month signage; creativity in handling the pairing party theme, inclusion of sponsor products, and sales increases.
