California specialty grocery retailer Bristol Farms plans to open a store in Santa Monica this summer.

A date has not been announced.

“We place a heavy emphasis on our fresh departments,” Kevin Davis, president and chief executive officer, said in a news release. That includes locally grown fresh produce along with deli, cheese, grab-and-go, meat, seafood and sushi offerings.

The site at 3105 Wilshire Blvd. was an Albertsons store prior to its February closure.

Bristol Farms is a former subsidiary of Supervalu Inc., which also owned Albertsons. Supervalu sold the business to Bristol Farms management and Endeavour Capital in 2010. In 2013, it sold Albertsons and four other chains to Acquisition LLC, an affiliate of Cerberus Capital Management LP.

The Santa Monica location will bring the total of stores operating under the Bristol Farms banner to 13. Of the current 12, 11 are in Southern California and one in San Francisco. The new store would be the eighth in Los Angeles County.
