California Citrus Mutual’s 2012 Citrus Showcase features discussions on new food safety regulations and good agricultural practices.

The March 8 event, at the Visalia Convention Center, includes a trade show of more than 90 booths, educational workshops and keynote speakers.

This year’s theme is “Protecting our Citrus, Protecting our Future.”

According to a news release, several workshops focus on food safety, including a discussion of the Food Safety Modernization Act and good agricultural practices.

Tony Souza, federal program manager at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Marketing Service, will teach growers to prepare for a USDA GAP audit.

Bob Elliott, director of food safety for Sunkist Growers Inc., will provide insight on a balanced approach to meeting food-safety requirements.
