Two stars of nature’s summer bounty, California avocados and Copper River salmon from Alaska, are paired in a healthy seasonal promotion involving special recipes and joint point-of-sale materials.
“The Copper River salmon season synchronizes very well with peak availability and quality of California avocados, and the two products share similar nutritional benefits and target markets,” Jan DeLyser, vice president of marketing for the California Avocado Commission, said in a news release.
The Irvine-based commission and the Copper River Salmon/Prince William Sound Marketing Association, Cordova, Alaska, worked jointly to alert food editors, writers and bloggers to the promotion, which runs through July, and to the two products’ health benefits, according to the release. Heart healthy fats are found in avocados, while the salmon contain omega 3 fatty acids, which have been found to reduce the risk of heart disease.
The promotion is supported by online advertising and continuing public relations efforts. Recipes and usage ideas are available on the two groups’ websites, www.CaliforniaAvocado.com, and www.CopperRiverSalmon.org.
