To encourage more consumers to try Vidalia sweet onions, Duda Farm Fresh Foods is starting a recipe promotion.

Duda promotes Vidalia onions through Facebook campaignDuda Farm Fresh Foods Inc., the fresh division of Oviedo, Fla.-based A. Duda & Sons Inc., is launching its Sweet Vidalia Recipe Rescue promotion during the peak of the Vidalia season. It plans to use the Facebook-based campaign to show consumers the onion’s versatility in recipes for most every meal, Duda officials said in a news release.

The promotion, which runs through July 30, has Duda featuring recipes on its Facebook page,, and includes awarding weekly Dandy Vidalia onion rescue gift baskets. The baskets have bags of Dandy Vidalia onions and Vidalia sauces and dressings.

“From breakfast to dinner, we’ve got our consumers covered,” Mark Bassetti, Duda Farm Fresh Foods’ senior vice president, said in the release. “Vidalia sweet onions are sold in bulk or 2-, 3- and 5-pound bags, giving the consumer lots of options for usage throughout the week. Instead of simply slicing and serving, we’re going to equip consumers with simple and affordable recipe solutions that play into their summer weekly meal plan.”

Duda markets Vidalia onions grown by M&T Farms, Lyons, Ga. Aries Haygood, M&T’s operations manager, is chairman of the Vidalia Onion Committee, Vidalia, Ga.
