The Eastern Produce Council and the New England Produce Council are planning to sponsor a fall educational conference.

Eastern produce councils planning joint September conferenceThe Short Hills, N.J.-based Eastern council and the Burlington, Mass.-based New England council are scheduling a Sept. 17-18 conference in Groton, Conn., that features speakers from the Newark, Del.-based Produce Marketing Association and the Washington, D.C.-based United Fresh Produce Association.

After a Sept. 17 grower tour, United Fresh president and chief executive officer Tom Stenzel is scheduled to host a panel of state secretaries of agriculture and industry professionals discussing how changes in regulations could affect growers.

The afternoon United Fresh program also includes a workshop on “School Foodservice and Tomorrow’s Consumers.”

On Sept. 18, Bob Whitaker, PMA’s chief science and technology officer, and Jim Gorny, PMA’s vice president of food safety and technology, are scheduled to discuss the latest on the Food Safety Modernization Act and research findings from the Center for Produce Safety in Davis, Calif.

During the morning session, Bryan Silbermann, PMA’s president and CEO, is planning to moderate a panel of retail and foodservice executives discussing how new regulations will affect their businesses.
