A New York fruit co-op recently relocated and hired a new general manager.

Empire Fruit Growers Co-op Inc. moved from North Rose to Wolcott and hired Rich Leous in April as its new general manager, said Rachel Tompkins, the company’s office manager.

Empire consists of five New York growers: Doyle Farms, Teeple Farms, Tree Crisp Orchards, Van Fleet Orchards and Wafler Farms.

The company’s new 70,000-square-foot facility in Wolcott was built in 2011 and features a six-lane packing line which can pack 4,000 bushels of apples in an eight-hour shift, Tompkins said.

Leous, who succeeds James Cahoon, has more than 25 years of experience in food manufacturing.
