Recipients of the 2014 Frieda Rapoport Caplan Family Business Scholarships have been named, giving four representatives from family businesses a chance to attend the United Fresh Produce Association’s Washington Conference, Sept. 8-10.

The four recipients and the companies they represent are:

  • Nick Chappell, California Giant Berry Farms, Watsonville, Calif.;
  • Mary Griffin Campbell, Griffin Ranches, Somerton, Ariz.;
  • Tyler Phipps, Market Fresh Produce, Nixa, Mo.; and
  • Cody Ramsey, Mann Packing Co., Salinas, Calif.

“Thanks to the very generous support and leadership of the Caplan family, family businesses throughout the industry benefit from this exceptional leadership opportunity,” Victoria Backer, United Fresh senior vice president of member services, said the release. “This year’s scholarship recipients will take part in all facets of The Washington Conference, and acquire the skills they need to be effective advocates on the issues that impact their businesses and the fresh produce industry.”

The Frieda Rapoport Caplan Business Scholarship Program gives representatives from family-owned businesses the chance to attend the conference, paying for airfare, hotel and registration.

The program was founded in 2011 by sisters Karen Caplan and Jackie Caplan Wiggins, in honor of their mother, Frieda Rapoport Caplan.
