The Produce Mom, Indianapolis Colts mascot Blue and professional athletes brought the Find Your Favorite fruit or vegetable program to a Danville, Ind., elementary school Dec. 10.

Lori Taylor, marketing manager at Indianapolis Fruit Co., is The Produce Mom. Colts tight end Coby Fleener, the program’s spinach hero (it’s Fleener’s favorite vegetable), joined Taylor and Blue at Danville South Elementary for activities and games.

Appearing viA Skype were pineapple hero Tamika Catchings, a pro basketball player with the Indiana Fever; kiwifruit hero Graham Rahal, an IndyCar driver; and blueberry hero David Boudia, an Olympic gold medalist in diving. Heroes are volunteers and represent their favorite produce items.

The show teaches students how to find their favorite fruit or vegetable, and includes information on My Plate standards and the Produce for Better Health Foundation’s Fruits & Veggies — More Matters principles.

Find Your Favorite has 17 heroes representing sports, arts and public safety; more are expected to join. The campaign, piloted in 67 Indianapolis public schools, is scheduled to launch in 10,000 elementary schools nationwide in 2014. By connecting fruits and vegetables to people youth admire, the initiative seeks to glamorize healthy eating.
