Ernst & Young LLP has named John Flynn, chief executive officer of Fleet Advantage LLC, as a finalist in the “emerging” category of the company’s awards competition. The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2011 honors entrepreneurs who demonstrate excellence and extraordinary success in areas such as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities, according to a news release.

A panel of independent judges selected Flynn as a finalist from nearly 100 nominations. Ernst & Young plans to publicize Florida award recipients June 16 in Orlando, Fla.

A November awards program will recognize the national overall award winner and regional award recipients remain eligible for consideration for the Entrepreneur of the Year National Award. That awards ceremony also will honor recipients from several national categories. The awards finish Ernst & Young’s Nov. 9-13 Strategic Growth Forum, a gathering of high-growth, market-leading companies.

Flynn said Fleet Advantage’s goal is to help private fleet operators of Class 8 trucks achieve a competitive advantage and operate with lower overall costs. In the release, he said rising fuel costs and the focus on the environment drives fleet operators to seek cost effective and environmentally responsible solutions.

Fleet Advantage is a member of the Food Marketing Institute and the International Foodservice Distributors Association.

The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year program is marking its 25th anniversary this year. The program recognizes business leaders in 50 countries.
