Citing fears of listeria contamination, Fresh & Easy is recalling spinach bags.
El Segundo, Calif.-based Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market Inc. recalled the 12-ounce bags of fresh washed spinach that have an Oct. 16 use-by date. The bags were sold in California, Nevada and Arizona stores, under the company’s f&e label.
A random test conducted by a Food and Drug Administration inspector returned a positive result for listeria monocytogenes. No illnesses were reported as of Oct. 21, according to a news release.
In August, Fresh & Easy recalled organic baby spinach that also tested positive for listeria contamination.
On Oct. 21, Church Bros. LLC recalled 560 bags of clipped spinach shipped to Super King Markets in Los Angeles after an inspection in a Commerce City, Colo., distribution center found one bag tested positive for salmonella.
In September, True Leaf Farms, Church Bros.’ processing division, recalled 2,498 cartons of chopped romaine lettuce shipped to 19 states and Canada after a positive listeria test.
No illnesses were reported in either case.
