Sidney, Ohio-based Freshway Foods donated $2,500 to the Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools campaign.

More than 1,200 schools have sought funds from the program; the donation will facilitate the placement of one salad bar.

The campaign’s grassroots efforts are a collaboration from the Food Family Farming Foundation, National Fruit and Vegetable Alliance, United Fresh Produce Association Foundation, and Whole Foods with the goal of implementing 6,000 salad bars in schools by the end of this year.

“We are proud to support this initiative to give school children access to fresh fruits and vegetables,” Frank Gilardi, chief executive officer of Freshway Foods, said in a news release. “Salad bars encourage increased consumption of fruits and vegetables among children, and help form healthy snack and meal habits that are essential to reducing childhood obesity.”
