Freshway Foods of Sidney, Ohio, has implemented a third-party food safety audit program and earned SQF 2000 Level 2 accreditation for Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point-based food safety plans.

Officials with the fresh produce processor, repacker and distributor said in a news release that Freshway chose SQF 2000 because of its wide appeal to many of its customers. In addition to the SQF certification, Freshway Foods participates in two other annual food safety audit programs.

Sam Schlagetter, director of quality and food safety for Freshway, said in the release that the company’s internal standards as well as food safety requirements of its customers would both be met by the SQF certification.

In addition to repacking, processing and distributing fresh produce, Freshway Foods is a logistics provider. The company has been in business for more than 20 years, serving foodservice and retail operations east of the Mississippi River, from Massachusetts to Florida.
