Frieda’s Inc., Los Alamitos, Calif., was named a Top 20 Community Donor by the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County.

Frieda’s donates approximately three to five pallets of produce each week to the local food bank, making it the second-largest donor in Orange County, according to a news release.

The donated produce is available through Second Harvest’s Mobile Pantry program, which sets up free produce stands at churches, businesses or community centers.

The program also offers cooking tips for the fruits and vegetables.

“Because many people do not know what to do with specialty produce, we go onto Frieda’s website (and) print recipes and product information...” Jeanne Danning, food procurement coordinator for Second Harvest, said in the release.

Karen Caplan, Frieda’s president and chief executive officer, said she is proud to help provide fresh produce to those who can’t afford it.

“These Mobile Pantries are such an innovative way to share donated food, and because they are set up like farmers markets, it preserves the personal dignity of those who are in need of food,” Caplan said in the release.
