A Florida organic produce wholesaler is moving into a larger facility and expects to add 62 new jobs over the next five years.

Sarasota-based Global Organic Specialty Source Inc. plans to close facilities in southern Manatee County and Miami and move into an 85,000-square-foot warehouse in Sarasota, said Ronni Blumenthal, the company’s vice president of administration.

The company had outgrown its old facilities, Blumenthal said.

“We’re getting some breathing room and getting our inventory centralized,” she said.

Global Organic, which sells about 300 different fruits and vegetables, doesn’t have immediate plans to roll out new product lines, Blumenthal said.

Sarasota County Government approved $124,000 in performance-based economic development funds to lure Global Organic to Sarasota. To receive the funds, the company must add 62 employees over five years.

Global Organic distributes certified organic produce to retailers, restaurants, resorts and buying clubs and co-ops. The company distributes throughout the southeastern U.S. and in the Caribbean.

Global Organic is expected to spend about $930,000 to renovate its new Sarasota facility and to add new equipment to automate processes and to aid its expansion into frozen food products.
