Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Cornett received the Friend of Chile Award from the Chilean and American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Philadelphia Nov. 10.
The award is presented each year to an individual who has shown support of trade relations between Philadelphia and Chile, according to a news release.
Longtime fruit importer Peter Kopke Sr. from William H. Kopke Jr. Inc., Great Neck, N.Y., was also honored with the chamber’s first Lifetime Achievement Award for his efforts in strengthening the trade between the Port of Philadelphia and Chile.
The CACCGP is a non-profit membership organization created to increase and improve trade relations between Chile and Philadelphia, according to a news release.
The Port of Philadelphia has been a handler of Chilean agricultural products for more than 30 years, with support from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The commonwealth’s support has led to improvements in the port’s refrigeration and square footage, which has helped expand distribution of Chilean grapes and other fruit products, according to the release.
