Bob Swartwout, an industry sales veteran, has joined Direct Advantage LLC in Columbia, S.C., the grower-shipper and supplier’s national sales manager.
Swartwout has worked more than 28 years in produce industry sales including director of foodservice sales at Performance Food Group’s Fresh Advantage division in Salinas, Calif., national account director for foodservice at Salinas-based Fresh Express Inc., and general manager and vice president of sales at Graziano Produce Co. Inc., in Portland, Ore.
At Graziano, Swartwout was general manager after Del Monte purchased the company in 2000 and was director of fresh-cut at Dallas-based Standard Fruit & Vegetable Co. Inc., until Del Monte acquired that operation.
He was also director of business development at Gold Coast Packing Inc., in Santa Maria, Calif., and in 2010 joined R.S. Hanline & Co. Inc., in Shelby, Ohio, as director of national foodservice sales before most recently becoming proprietor of VNS Sales in Denton, Texas.
Swartwout has also been active in the National Association of Fresh Produce Processors from its 1986 formation, was on the board and 1994-95, was chairman of the organization that later become the International Fresh-Cut Produce Association before it later merged with the United Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Association to become the United Fresh Produce Association.
