Customs brokerage J&K Fresh LLC, Los Angeles, has opened an East Coast division at the Port of Philadelphia.

J&K Fresh East opens through a partnership with Philadelphia-based 721 Logistics LLC.

J&K, which caters to customs clearances for the fresh fruit and perishable industry, started its eastern operations in January. The new operation focuses on customs clearance and import logistics.

Lynnette Keffer, J&K’s president and chief executive officer, however, wanted to ensure the East Coast staff was properly trained under J&K’s procedures before formally promoting the expansion, according to a news release.

“We are very excited about this opportunity and what it means to our customers,” Keffer said in the release. “The Port of Philadelphia is a major player in perishable imports and many of our West Coast clients clear product there — from a business standpoint, establishing J&K Fresh East was easily justifiable.”

John Ercolani, J&K Fresh East’s vice president of operations, said in the release that the move helps ensure customers receive strong customer service.

Though founded in 2001, J&K’s roots trace to 1987 under the Jones & Klink company name.

The family-owned 721 Logistics is a customs broker and freight forwarder that began operations in 2012.
