Concord Foods is launching a kale and apple smoothie mix in October designed for display in fresh produce departments.
It comes in a 1.11-ounce pouch and is available to retailers in 18-pack cases, 48-pack clip strips or 72-pack floor shippers. Suggested retail price is $1.29.
The smoothies can be made with the mix and one cup of fresh kale, one apple, water and ice. The mix is enhanced with protein and calcium. Ingredients include honey powder, ground ginger, vanilla extract, lemon juice powder and celery seed.
“Consumers are aware of kale’s great health benefits; they are seeking tasty ways to add more kale into their diets,” Charles Olins, vice president of sales and marketing at Concord Foods, said in a news release. “Concord Foods has responded by developing an easy-to-make smoothie mix for kale and apples.”
The mix can be used as a snack or a meal replacement, he said.
