Mastronardi/SUNSET Produce chairman Don Mastronardi was honored at the Ontario Produce Marketing Association Gala with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

According to a news release, Mastronardi received the award Nov. 14 for his work in greenhouse produce.

When he was 25, Mastronardi joined the family business, working at the newly acquired Harry Becker Co. in the Detroit Market before returning to Leamington, Canada, to sell the family’s greenhouse harvest.

Years later, Mastronardi led Fresh Sales, a co-operative sales group, to reenergize the greenhouse produce market before building his own 40-acre greenhouse. In 1994 he launched the Campari tomato brand,

“I’m speechless,” Mastronardi said in a news release. “It’s incredibly humbling to be presented with this award among so many innovators and professionals. This is a true honor.”
