Michigan’s apple industry broke the record for October sales by 28,000 cartons.

The state shipped more than 1.32 million cases of apples in October, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Market News Service. The previous record for October sales was set in 2009.

Denise Donohue, executive director of the Michigan Apple Committee, said in a news release the state is shipping at least a dozen varieties of apples. She said the October sales numbers reflect not only a large harvest but also excellent pack-out rates.
