NSF International has acquired a Brazilian specialist in environmental and food safety analysis.

Ann Arbor, Mich.-based NSF, which provides food safety auditing, certification, consulting and training to fruit and vegetable growers and other food industry businesses, purchased Porto Alegre, Brazil-based Bioensaios Analysis and Environmental Consultancy Ltd., according to an NSF news release.

Bioensaios provides environmental evaluations for freshwater, seawater, effluent, soil and sediment; valuation reports on drinking water, food and feed safety; and studies for chemical products, drugs, materials and components.

Bionsaios will now be known as NSF Bioensaios.

“NSF International’s acquisition of Bioensaios significantly enhances both organizations,” Kevan Lawlor, NSF’s international president and chief executive officer, said in the release. “In addition, it expands NSF’s technical leadership in water, food safety, health sciences and sustainability in Latin America’s largest market, while reinforcing NSF’s global commitment to technical excellence.”

The acquisition of Bioensaios complements NSF’s existing operations in Peru, Chile, Brazil, Mexico and Costa Rica, and its recent acquisition of the INASSA Group, a Peruvian leader in testing for the water, seafood, pharmaceutical and mining industries, Lawlor said.
