New York apple growers donated apples to a kosher New York soup kitchen to help families celebrate Passover.

New York Apple donates to kosher non-profitThrough the New York Apple Association, growers donated 4,000 pounds of apples for distribution through Masbia, a New York non-profit kosher soup kitchen and food pantry.

Staff and volunteers included the apples in take-home kits. The apples are used to make charoset, a traditional food served during the Seder meal to observe the beginning of Passover. Charoset is a paste made of fruits, nuts and spices.
