The Quebec Produce Marketing Association, Montreal, Canada, recently authored the “Coup de coeur pour les oignons du Québec!” food guide featuring Quebec-grown onions. The guide is a part of the association’s “I love 5 to 10 servings a day” campaign that promotes healthy eating habits and benefits produce sales of the association’s members.

Author and nutritionist, Julie DesGroseilliers, discusses the properties of red and yellow onions in the guide as well as historical information about the vegetables and ways to include onions in daily cooking.

“They’re a basic ingredient in people’s cooking all over the world. A perfect low-calorie seasoner that adds extra flavor to our simple, everyday meals,” she explained.

People can find recipes capitalizing on the versatility of onions in the guide, including the original recipe, L’Épicier style fried onions with mashed Jerusalem artichokes and chive oil, created by Chef Laurent Godbout.
