As artichoke production gears up for its spring peak, Ocean Mist Farms has begun its second sweepstakes for consumers.
The promotion, dubbed Take Your Pic, runs through the end of April.
Castroville, Calif.-based Ocean Mist is inviting shoppers to photograph fresh artichokes on promotion in retail displays and in print or online ads, according to a news release.
Each week in April, one winner receives $2,000. Entrants submit the photos to Ocean Mist’s mobile site, m.oceanmist.com. To qualify, participants must be members of the company’s Artichoke Aficionados club.
Last year’s sweepstakes helped grow membership to more than 33,000.
“Take Your Pic rewards artichoke shoppers for being our eyes and ears in their market and helping other shoppers find artichokes in their region,” Kori Tuggle, director of marketing and business development, said in the release.
Ocean Mist is promoting the sweepstakes with display contests, in store signage, artichoke petal inserts and online at its website, Facebook and Twitter accounts. Point of sale material is available at www.oceanmist.com or the trade order portal.
The grower-shipper is offering in-store demos at some retail partners’ locations during peak supply of artichokes. At the mobile website, a new feature tells shoppers where to find artichokes on sale nearby.
The efforts come at a time when Ocean Mist is also launching a prewashed, microwave-ready bag of artichokes.
In Northern California, the company is working with Raley’s, Save Mart, Lucky and FoodMaxx on display contests. In New Orleans, Rouses plans to build the world’s largest artichoke display the week of April 16, according to the release.
