To encourage parents to pack healthier foods in their children’s lunchoxes, Produce for Kids plans to start a campaign generating money for kids’ health and wellness.

From Aug. 11 through Sept. 15, the Orlando, Fla.-based organization’s Power Your Lunchbox Pledge plans to encourage parents to include healthier items in their children’s lunches.

Visitors to can pledge to pack healthier foods in lunchboxes; obtain dietician-approved, kid-friendly lunchbox ideas and tips; and download coupons from companies supporting the program.

For every pledge that families or individuals make, participating produce companies agree to donate 25 cents to to fund health and wellness classroom projects around the country.

Products from partner companies are planned to be featured in recipe ideas on the website and promoted to more than 37,000 Produce for Kids social media fans and followers, according to a news release.

Campaign supporters include AMC Direct Inc., Swedesboro, N.J.; Organics Unlimited Inc., San Diego; and Pero Family Farms Food Co. LLC, Delray Beach, Fla.

“With so much in the news today about what kids are eating during lunch at school, we’re excited to be partnering with other likeminded companies to encourage parents to pack healthier lunchboxes this school year,” Trish James, Produce for Kids’ vice president, said in the release. “In addition, we’re able to raise funds to educate kids in the classroom about making healthier food choices and the importance of nutrition and exercise.”
