More than 7,000 families pledged to pack healthier lunches for their children during the Power Your Lunchbox Pledge conducted from Aug. 11 to Sept. 15.

As part of Orlando, Fla.-based Produce for Kids’ back-to-school campaign, sponsoring produce companies pledged a donation each time a commitment was made. They raised more than $5,000 for to fund health and wellness classroom projects nationwide, according to the news release.

Sponsors included AMC Direct South African Summer Citrus, Define Bottle, Grow by Organics Unlimited, Laptop Lunches Bento-ware and Pero Family Farms.

Families could go online to the website to make pledges and find registered dietitian-approved lunchbox ideas and tips. The site also had coupons from sponsors.

“As a parent of two boys, I can vouch for the challenges parents face packing a healthy lunchbox that their kids will actually eat, Produce for Kids vice president Trish James said in the release. “The Power Your Lunchbox program was designed to provide parents with resources to overcome this hurdle.”

Between the website and accompanying social media sites, the campaign garnered more than 35 million impressions.
