As part of a strategic effort to increase overall potato sales, RPE Inc. plans a consumer sweepstakes this fall using the Tasteful Selections line of specialty potatoes.
The contest is set for September through November. It will use RPE's Facebook page along with extensive materials available to retailers to encourage consumer participation, according to a news release from the Bancroft, Wis.-based company. A retail display contest is planned to encourage store managers to promote the contest.
Russell Wysocki, RPE president and chief executive officer, said in the release the sweepstakes promotion will allow the company to connect with consumers while helping retail customers to improve potato category performance.
The sweepstakes will be promoted on packaging for Tasteful Selections’ Ruby Sensations and Honey Gold varieties. According to RPE’s release, the Tasteful Selections line is available at more than 8,000 stores nationwide.
Wysocki said in the release that specialty baby potatoes have been the fastest growing segment in the potato category in recent years and RPE believes there is potential for continued growth. As a year-round grower-shipper of potatoes and onions, RPE is prepared to meet growing demand, according to the release.
In the sweepstakes, consumers will have the chance to win $2,500 cash, a grill package, Kindle Fire tablets, and other prizes. Consumers enter by using the “Simply Amazing Sweepstakes” app on the Tasteful Selections' Facebook page. Consumers can earn extra entries by sharing the contest with their friends via Facebook and other social media platforms.
