Neither foodborne pathogens nor the Produce Traceability Initiative know no bounds, leaving some small entities in the produce supply chain feeling overwhelmed. However, a new suite of products from RedLine Solutions is designed to help smaller companies become PTI compliant.

Dubbed “PTI Lite” by Santa Clara, Calif.-based RedLine, the new PTI solution is scheduled to be introduced via a Web seminar set for 11 a.m. to noon Pacific Time on Feb. 29. Registration is required, but the Web seminar is offered free of charge.

Although the PTI Leadership Council does not endorse any products or companies, Dan Vache, co-chair of the PTI technology working group and vice president of supply chain management for the United Fresh Produce Association in Washington D.C., said he is familiar with RedLine’s “PTI Lite.”

“It is a viable product and fills a need of that niche of smaller companies,” Vache said.

Vache said RedLine Solutions chief executive officer Todd Baggett is on the PTI technology working group with him and has a very clear understanding of the different needs different sizes of companies have when it comes to PTI compliance.

“I believe PTI Lite was designed because of comments Todd was hearing in his role with the working group,” Vache said.

In a news release announcing the Web seminar on “PTI Lite,” Baggett said the Feb. 29 session will include an overview of PTI milestones and best practices in addition to specific information about the new product suite for small businesses.

“PTI Lite” is designed for use by growers, packers and shippers. Visit http://tinyurl.com/PTI-lite to register for the Web seminar. Registrations will be taken through Feb. 28.
