Christopher Melchert has been named senior manager for food safety and quality assurance for The National Restaurant Association, Washington, D.C. The new position will work within government affairs to strengthen policy and regulations, according to a news release.

Melchert has worked in the food safety industry for more than 27 years, as a compliance officer for the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission followed by director of regulatory and technical affairs for the Snack Food Association. He also was environmental health specialist for Fairfax County Health Department and the Virginia Department of Health.
