Detroit-based Riggio Distribution Co. has promoted Ray Lech to corporate sales manager.

Lech, a longtime Riggio employee, took the new position in mid-summer, said Dominic Riggio, the company’s president.

“It’s a new position for us,” Riggio said. “We had been doing it through a collection of people.”

Riggio Distribution decided to add the position to provide more focused sales support to some of its big customers.

“Ray will develop business with our larger foodservice and retail customers,” Riggio said. “We have a lot of daily street sales, and a full team dedicated to walk-in business. We’ve always dealt with our corporate customers in the same way, but now we’re taking a new approach.”

Lech has worked in a variety of different jobs at Riggio Distribution, which makes him an ideal fit, Riggio said. In addition, before joining the company, Lech owned his own business, which gives him an owner’s perspective, as well.

“Ray’s the perfect guy for it. He’s very well-rounded. He understands processing, packaging, food safety, warehousing, logistics, shelf life — everything needed to get the job done. Knowing all that makes him better at his job. And he understands the direction we’re going in.”
