Officials with Scientific Certification Systems announced Aug. 16 that the company gained accreditation to certify operations worldwide under the GlobalGAP Integrated Farm Assurance standard.

Based in Emeryville, Calif., SCS has been providing food safety auditing and training for 27 years. Clients include growers, distributors and retailers. The company has offices on several continents, and also provides micropathogen testing, flavor analysis, responsible sourcing certification and pesticide residue testing.

SCS director of food and agricultural auditing services Heena Patel said in a news release the GlobalGAP standard is becoming more important to producers and suppliers around the world as the focus on food safety intensifies.

In addition to offering GlobalGAP certification, SCS can also provide third-party HACCP, SQF, GAP/GMP, Tesco Nurture and BRC audits and certifications for its clients.

According to the SCS website, retailers are increasingly requiring GlobalGAP audits of suppliers. GlobalGAP certification is an agricultural production standard that addresses site history, irrigation, harvest and post-harvest operations, fertilizer usage, recycling and reuse, waste management and management practices.

Earlier in August, SCS announced it had earned a five-star rating from the British Retail Consortium. The rating signifies that SCS is an “excellent” provider accredited to audit and issue certification under the BRC standard.
