The president and chief executive officer of the Produce Marketing Association has won an award from the University of California-Davis for his role in establishing the Center for Produce Safety at the school.

Bryan Silbermann will be given the Award of Distinction from Davis’ College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Oct. 5, according to a university news release.

Newark, Del.-based PMA provided $2 million in funding for the Center for Produce Safety, and Silbermann — along with Neal Van Alfen, then the dean of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences; and A.G. Kawamura, then-secretary of agriculture for California — was one of the driving forces behind it.

The center has funded 42 research projects in four countries and 12 U.S. states.
