The season’s first shipment of South African midknight oranges arrived in the U.S. late the week of Oct. 3.

The first of four October shipments arrived at the port of Philadelphia, according to the Citrusdal, South Africa-based Western Cape Citrus Producers Forum.

South African shippers expect to export about 600,000 cartons of midknights, 60,000 cartons more than in 2010. Fruit should be available through mid-November, according to the forum.
