Southeast Produce Council fall conference attracts big turnoutNASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Southeast Produce Council opened its fall conference to record attendance.

Up to 200 people jammed a welcoming “get acquainted” reception at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center Sept. 22. This high attendance even before the conference officially began Sept. 23 was a good sign, said council president John Shuman, president of Shuman Produce Inc., Reidsville, Ga.

“We have very good attendance this year,” Shuman said. “We are having this conference in a great venue here in Nashville. It’s really showing in the high interest. It’s our largest fall conference to date.”

During the reception, East Ellijay, Ga.-based council leaders named new board nominees for the coming year and Shuman gave a welcome to attendees.

The event includes Sept. 23 board meetings where council officers are set to discuss organization strategy, a keynote luncheon and educational session. New officers are scheduled to be installed Sept. 24 at a reception and dinner dance. During the dance, Shuman plans to present the council’s annual state of the council address.

On Sept. 24, recreational activities include the Ken Lanhardt Memorial Golf Tournament.
