LENEXA, Kan. — Come on down and be the next contestant to spin the Famous Idaho Potato Tour prize wheel.
The Idaho Potato Tour — marking the Idaho Potato Commission’s 75th year — made a pit stop July 23 to visit The Packer office.
The Tater Team — Kaiti Frickey and Ellis Nanney — said there have been some additions to the tour since it kicked off on April 2.
The prize wheel is a popular addition to the tour. Visitors can take a chance to spin the wheel and win a potato prize.
“We don’t do it at every stop,” Frickey said. “We normally only do it when we are both together, but it’s a big hit with kids.”
Prizes include a stuffed Spuddy Buddy doll, a squishy Chef Tator, Idaho Potato pins, red hats and free mashed potato coupons.
Along with the wheel, the tour’s social media outlets are helping in its success.
Frickey said social media draws in the crowd.
“Half or more see it on Facebook and will go to the page that lets them interact, which is a big help,” Frickey said. “Some people will see it on the road and go to our Facebook page to see what it’s all about.”
Their Facebook page not only gives information on where they will be but also includes prizes.
The 12,130-pound spud continued its travels the week of July 23 with stops scheduled for Kansas City, Mo., and Oklahoma City.
The tour is scheduled to run through Halloween.
