Stemilt Growers Inc. and the Institute of Food Technologists are partnering with the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the agency’s “What’s on MyPlate?” Day March 8.

Stemilt and the institute are among the nearly 6,000 partners with USDA on “What’s on MyPlate?” Day, according to Stemilt and institute news releases.

The agency created “What’s on MyPlate?” Day to raise awareness for the MyPlate food icon, introduced in June 2011, which encourages people to fill half their plate with fruits and vegetables.

“What’s on MyPlate?” Day is relying on social networks including blogs, Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook to promote MyPlate and its related messages and resources, including the new SuperTracker and the website.

Both Stemilt and the institute are encouraging consumers to take a photo of their favorite healthful plates of food and post them at the USDA’s Flickr photo group, at
