Stemilt Growers has launched a promotion for peak apricot season.

“The next two weeks are key for using apricots to drive sales in order to boost your stone fruit category,” marketing director Roger Pepperl said July 15 in a news release.

Wenatchee, Wash.-based Stemilt is harvesting its main varieties, Rival and Perfection. The grower-shipper, which reports large fruit sizing, is packing most of its jumbos in panta packs that can be used in retail display building.

The promotion, “All Eyes on Apricots,” aims to keep attention on the fruit in late July. A new 11-by-7-inch point of sale sign with the campaign’s name touts the fruit’s eye health benefits. Stemilt also offered to set up display contests and demos.

One apricot provides 13% of daily recommended vitamin A amounts. The fruit also contains vitamins C, E and carotenoids.

“Apricots are a heritage item at Stemilt, and the quality of the 2014 crop is one of the finest we’ve seen in years,” Pepperl said. Color and the balance of sugars and acids are optimal, he said.
