Wesley Chapel, Fla.-based Sweetbay Supermarket and Indianapolis-based Marsh Supermarket were among the winners in the 22nd annual Idaho Potato Commission retail display contest.

Held in February, Potato Lover’s Month, the contest drew 4,049 entries, the most ever, according to a news release from the Eagle-based commission.

“We welcomed several major new retailers who participated in the contest for the first time this year, giving them a chance to show off the phenomenal creativity of their produce managers,” Seth Pemsler, the commission’s vice president for retail/international, said in the release.

Hormel Foods partnered with the commission on this year’s contest.

“We were excited and honored to partner with one of the most well-known brands in the produce department,” Tony Horvath, Hormel’s produce manager, said in the release. “Idaho potatoes with Hormel Bacon Toppings are a natural meal solution that resonates with consumers.”

Sweetbay was the first-place winner among stores with 10 or more cash registers. Marsh was the winner among stores with six to nine registers. South Pittsburg, Tenn.-based Kirkpatrick’s Foodland was the winner among stores with one to five registers.

In each register-size category, cash prizes were awarded in first through fifth places. More than $150,000 in cash and prizes were awarded.
