A new trade show specifically tailored by The Packer for the produce industry in the Midwest is scheduled for August 2012 in Chicago.
Officials from Vance Publishing Corp., which publishes The Packer, announced plans for the Midwest Produce Conference & Expo, set for Aug. 13-15 at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel in downtown Chicago.
The new regional event was born out of industry demand and independent market research that confirmed the fresh produce industry in the Midwest would benefit from such a trade show, said The Packer’s Editor Greg Johnson.
“We see a lot of value in smaller regional events,” he said. “Midwest Produce will have a one-day expo with booths all the same size. It’s designed for buyer-seller interactions. The workshops will be heavy on consumer information and a preview of The Packer’s yearly Fresh Trends research.”
General sessions are scheduled to feature the industry’s leading authorities, exclusive research and a panel of consumers providing insight into today’s shopping trends.
The three-day event also features optional activities, including a golf outing and tours of Chicago’s world- class fresh produce terminal market.
The Vienna, Va.-based U.S. Apple Association’s annual meeting is scheduled for later in the week, also in downtown Chicago.
