A labeling system developed by ToolWorx Information Products Inc. in response to the Produce Traceability Initiative recently earned a U.S. patent.

The SmartVision system from the Brighton, Mich., company allows growers to use standard graphics and markings to identify produce in containers and automatically print PTI-compliant labels without using a computer or mobile terminal, according to a news release.

The labeling product uses Intermec Smart Printers to serve as a computer and printer, which can save growers money and streamline their processes while allowing for proofing of labels, the release said.

The SmartVision system is part of the ToolWorx SmartPTI Suite that provides several labeling options for growers.
