Tim Smucker of the J.M. Smucker Co. and Danny Wegman of Wegmans Food Markets are winners of the GS1 Lifetime Achievement Award, given at the GS1 General Assembly and Global Leadership Summit May 20-23 in Los Angeles.

“The leadership, vision, and innovation demonstrated by both Tim Smucker and Danny Wegman have not only advanced the food and beverage industries, but all industries that use information standards to improve business processes, share information efficiently, and conduct business one way around the world,” Bob Carpenter, president and chief executive officer of GS1 US, said in a news release. “As visionaries, they have elevated their family businesses to become two of the world’s most respected brands, while also generously giving their time to lead collaboration with their peers and trading partners to move industry forward. We couldn’t have two more deserving honorees for our first-ever GS1 Lifetime Achievement Award.”

Smucker has been chairman of his Orrville, Ohio-based company since 1987. He is a former member of the GS1 US Board of Governors.

Wegman joined his Rochester, N.Y.-based family business in 1964. In 2005, he became chief executive officer after 30 years as company president.
