The U.S. Department of Agriculture filed a Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act administrative action against La Merced Produce LLC after it failed to pay more than $4 million in produce debts.

La Merced Produce, Forest Park, Ga., allegedly failed to pay 13 produce sellers a total of $4,351,483 for produce bought from June 2008 to July 2012, according to an Aug. 21 USDA release.

La Merced Produce can request a hearing. If the USDA finds La Merced responsible, the company will lose its license to operate in the industry for two years, and its responsibly connected individuals will not be able to work for any PACA licensee for a year.
