The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Marketing Service is reviewing the Mango Promotion, Research, and Information Order. Federal law — called the Regulatory Flexibility Act — requires all agencies to review regulations over a period of ten years and revise those that are duplicative, excessively burdensome to small entities, or no longer necessary.

The schedule to review the mango board this year was set by the agency in 2006.

The Mango Promotion, Research, and Information Order, which started in 2004, is administered by the National Mango Board with oversight by the USDA.

William Watson, executive director of the Orlando, Fla.-based National Mango Board, said all government commodity marketing orders and regulations are subject to a periodic regulatory review. Watson, who is leaving the mango board at the end of the year, said the mango board is scheduled for its regular five-year continuance referendum next year.

Comments on the review will be taken until Aug. 19.
