The University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Science has named John Hayes dean for research and director of the Florida Agriculture Experiment Station.

Hayes was appointed by Jack Payne, University of Florida senior vice president for agriculture and natural resources.

“I look forward to working with the faculty to create new opportunities to build on the tremendous foundation IFAS has built in research,” Hayes said in a news release.

Hayes will oversee nearly 1,000 faculty members at the university’s main campus in Gainesville.

Earlier, Hayes was the UF/IFAS interim dean for research.

He has worked at the University of Florida since July 2006. Previously, Hayes was a professor and chairman of the wildlife ecology and conservation department, according to a news release.
