For Harbor City, Calif., resident Thelma, lunch truly was on Ready Pac Foods Inc., thanks to a contest for a year’s worth of the company’s Bistro Bowl salads.

The grand prize was part of an online contest conducted by Ready Pac, Irwindale, Calif., to spotlight the launch of its social media campaign last month, according to a news release.

“Social media has given us a new way to connect with our fans, and they were also connecting with one another through the contest,” Tristan Simpson, marketing director, said in the release.

Titled “Lunch is On Us,” the contest was promoted through Ready Pac’s website, Facebook page and Twitter.

The number of “likes” on Ready Pac’s Facebook page increased to more than 3,000, and Twitter followers increased by nearly 50%, according to the release.

In addition to the overall prize, the contest featured Bistro-Bowl-a-Day winners announced via Facebook and e-mail.

More than 600 entries came from 12 states.
