Ag Against Hunger, Salinas, Calif., received a $35,000 grant to help update its cooler facility, trucks and other equipment as well as fund the day-to-day operations.

The grant came from the Metabolic Studio, a project of the Annenberg Foundation under the direction of Artist and Foundation Director Lauren Bon, the agency said in a news release.

Ag Against Hunger applied for the grant, which was announced July 31, said Abby Taylor-Silva, Ag Against Hunger’s executive director. Taylor-Silva said the grant will allow Ag Against Hunger “to distribute over 850,000 pounds of produce to people throughout California and beyond.”

Ag Against Hunger is a non-profit agency providing fresh donated produce to food banks in Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito counties, and statewide and out-of-state when the fresh produce needs of local food banks are satisfied. Since 1990, area growers and shippers have donated more than 154 million pounds of fresh fruit and vegetables.
